We offer a world-renowned TEFL / TESOL certification course in Cambodia that equips you for the professional task of teaching English overseas, or in your home country. Our TEFL certification courses last for four weeks and have a very practical emphasis. There is no need to speak any language other than English, as our courses concentrate on training you to teach English with the international standard communicative approach – where English is the only language used in the classroom.

Our TEFL certification courses

Our TEFL certification courses are certainly demanding; however, we do everything within our power to encourage TEFL students to pass the course and to promptly acquire a teaching job abroad.

The TEFL course in Cambodia is divided into six main areas

1) Teaching Practice

This is the most practical and fundamental area of any TEFL training course. During the teaching practice sessions, trainees have the opportunity to teach real students of English and put into practice the skills learnt during the theoretical parts of the course.

2) Foreign Language Experience

During the course, trainees receive instruction in an unknown foreign language to help them reflect on the experience of being a learner. This session is extremely useful in creating empathy between the teacher and student and should help trainees to direct their own teaching.

3) Language Awareness

a) This area focuses on grammar and covers subjects such as parts of speech, the structure of tenses, conditionals and modals and other common grammar points. During these sessions trainees learn about these subjects as well as ways to teach them to their future students in the classroom.

b) This area also looks at the subject of phonology and covers phonemics, word and sentence stress, intonation and connected speech.

4) Student Profile

For this part of the course, each trainee is required to work with an individual student in order to work on things such as rapport building, error analysis, correction techniques and addressing individual student needs. Three meetings with the student are required to complete the profile, after which the trainee completes a one-to-one lesson with their student. The final stage is the completion of a written report regarding the lesson.

5) Teaching Techniques

This component of the course covers areas such as:

  • Lesson planning
  • Classroom management
  • Establishing rapport
  • Discipline in the classroom
  • Managing equipment and teaching aids
  • Creating materials
  • Correction techniques
  • Evaluation and testing
  • Teaching vocabulary
  • Teaching grammar
  • Teaching receptive skills (reading and listening)
  • Teaching productive skills (speaking and writing)
  • Games in the classroom
  • Songs in the classroom
  • Teaching beginner students
  • Teaching individual students

6) Materials Project

All trainees are required to create their own set of materials to be used during the teaching practice. These materials will be useful in future teaching environments and will help to instill the benefits of creativity and resourcefulness in relation to your lesson planning. The materials should be easily portable, durable and adaptable for different lesson points.

Once you have created your materials project you will present it to a course trainer and demonstrate how it will be used in the classroom. Your trainer will then provide advice and suggestions on how they can be improved and how they could be used in another context.

Apply Today

All applications from candidates aged 18 (younger ages may be considered in exceptional circumstances) and above will be considered for our English teaching courses. Our in-class TEFL courses are intensive, four-week programs; however, all trainees should still have sufficient time to explore the local area, experience the culture and to meet new people. Also, individual course organizers will often arrange leisure activities for our trainees so they can socialize in their spare time and make the most of their experience.

Course fees

The total price is divided into: deposit and balance.

The deposit may be paid via a) credit card b) PayPal c) wire transfer d) Western Union.

The balance of the course fee must be paid by cash, PayPal or bank transfer directly to the training center on the first day of the course.

TEFL Koh Kong City | TEFL Cambodia

The capital of Cambodia’s south-western province of Koh Kong, Koh Kong City is a small provincial town that rests on the banks of the Kaoh Pao River. The town is about 10 km from the international border crossing with Thailand in Cham Yeam and until relatively recently was easier to access from Thailand than the rest of Cambodia due to poor road infrastructure.

Now that highway 48 is paved, the province is easily accessible from Phnom Penh and Sihanoukville with regular bus services between the cities. Due to its long isolation much of the region is unspoiled and the drive to Koh Kong City provides some excellent views of the Cardamom Mountains – one of Cambodia’s least developed regions.

In the area surrounding Koh Kong has much to offer including mountains, jungles, rivers, islands a zoo, casino and a lot more. The Cardamom Mountains are covered in pristine jungle with a number of waterfalls that offer a beautiful way to cool down after a long trek. Hiking and mountain biking are popular activities as are water sports such as snorkelling and kayaking. The coast is home to the largest mangrove forest in Asia which can be explored by boat from Koh Kong City. Boat trips are also available to Koh Kong Island, Cambodia’s largest island, with some of the best beaches in Southeast Asia.

For the independently minded there are bicycles and motorcycles for rent in Koh Kong City giving you the chance to explore the city and wider province according to your own schedule. The city is also home to a large number of restaurants and bars and the river front comes alive after 4 p.m. with vendors selling food, beer and sugar cane juice. It’s a great place to take an evening stroll, pick up something to eat and relax with a beer or two.

Q What is the course schedule?

Class time is generally 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., with mid-morning and afternoon breaks and a lunch break. For approximately two weeks, you will be preparing to teach, learning all of the things you need to know in order to be successful in the classroom, with practice classroom teaching sessions. During the first 2 weeks you will go to an International school to observe the English teachers teaching in an actual classroom, times are between 5:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. During the last 2 weeks, you will actually do practical teaching each day, and prepare your lesson materials.

Q What can I expect during teaching practice?

The students are school children as well as adults. The students range from beginners to intermediate. The experience gained in this way will benefit you tremendously. Taking your development step by step only helps you to gain more confidence and help to build your own style of teaching.

Most of the participants are American, British, Canadian, Australian, or South African; as well we do accept non-native speakers of English who have a high proficiency in the language. The maximum class size in the Koh Kong location is 10. We keep this number low so that we can provide our trainees with the individualized attention they deserve.

During trainees’ lessons, casual attire is allowed. Cambodia can get rather hot so this means sandals, shorts, t-shirts and other loose-fitting clothing, cotton attire is best. During teacher practice and observation sessions, there are specific dress requirements that adhere to the local working culture and basic ideas of professionalism. You will need to dress in trousers/skirts and closed-toe shoes. Men need collared shirts, while women need to wear conservative tops that cover their shoulders. Men also need to shave or keep facial hair neatly trimmed. No visible tattoos or facial piercings are allowed while teaching local students. We ask that you be respectful and mindful of your peers and the cultural norms of Cambodia.

Q What should I bring for course studies?

Please be sure to arrive on the first day of the course with a notebook and a pen. We also encourage you to bring a laptop as we have Wi-Fi at the training center. We will provide all course materials for you so there is no need to bring anything else for the course itself.

Of course, you need your passport. When you secure work you may be asked to provide notarized copies of your birth certificate, college/university degrees with transcripts along with a degree verification letter.

Q What's the climate like? What kind of clothing will I need to bring?

Most of the time, it is hot and humid. But, it can get cool during the winter months. It is not necessary to bring too many clothes with you as clothes are rather inexpensive and can be purchased locally. We recommend packing light for your initial training. A lightweight raincoat can come in handy.
