    Q Should I do a Level 5 TEFL course?

    There are many ways to become a TEFL teacher and be certified to teach English. Deciding whether or not to take a Level 5 TEFL course will depend on a number of factors.

    These include how long you’d like to teach English for, where you’d like to teach (at home, online or abroad), how dedicated you are to TEFL teacher training, how quickly you’d like to be qualified, how much time you have to dedicate to your studies, your level of English (native or fluent) and so on. Taking an English level test can help you discover if a Level 5 course is for you.

    Q Do I need a bachelor’s degree to do a TEFL course?

    No, you do not need a degree to take a TEFL course or get hired as an English teacher. This is a common misconception. The core requirement to undertake a TEFL qualification is a native level of English fluency.

    In certain countries a degree is required to obtain the correct work visa, in order for you to work there legally. Employers worldwide can also state a preference for degree-holding applicants. If you feel suitable for a role, however do not hold a degree it is still worthwhile applying for these jobs as you may be interviewed based on the strength of your overall profile.

    Q Can you fail a Level 5 TEFL course?

    Yes, you can fail a Level 5 TEFL qualification. Once your assessment is complete it will be marked by your academic tutor. You will receive two opportunities to re-submit any answers that have been marked as incorrect. If, after your third attempt, you still have not passed your assessment questions successfully, your coursework will be marked as a fail.

    These courses are the equivalent to CELTA and require a good amount of commitment from trainee TEFL teachers. Supports are available to help you during assessment and reassessment process, on the journey to achieving a prestigious teaching award.

    Q How long does it take to complete a Level 5 TEFL course?

    Typically it takes around 13 – 16 weeks to complete a Level 5 TEFL course, depending on how much free time you have to study. You will have 6 months of study time from the day that you enrol and can add more time on if you run out.

    As a self-guided course you do not have to wait for scheduled classes, classmates or seminars, you complete the 11 modules of coursework in your own time, at your preferred pace.

    Q Do I need to submit TEFL assignments?

    All of your online TEFL course assignments are self-contained within your learning portal. At the end of each module you’ll be tested on the knowledge gained during the most recent topic.

    Level 5 assessments will include a mix of multiple choice and essay style questions. At the end of your course your exam assessor will review your open ended questions and answers, and contact you if any re-assessment is required. This is common on a Level 5 TEFL qualification.

    Q Will I have a personal TEFL tutor?

    All trainee TEFL teachers will have a personal tutor to help them with academic queries. Your personal TEFL tutor will be assigned to you one or two days after course enrollment, you will have their direct email address so that you can contact them when you need support throughout your course.

    Your personal tutor may be a different person to your academic assessor, who will be responsible for marking your TEFL course assessments.

    Q Is TQUK recognised?

    TQUK (Training Qualifications UK) is a fully approved awarding organisation by Ofqual. As such they award Regulated Qualification Framework (RQF) courses in a number of education fields, including TEFL. Premier TEFL is a TQUK approved training center, license number 1709191.
