Our world-renowned TEFL / TESOL certification course in Rome equips you for the professional task of teaching English overseas, or in your home country. Our TEFL certification courses last for four weeks and have a very practical emphasis. There is no need to speak any language other than English, as our courses concentrate on training you to teach English with the international standard communicative approach – where English is the only language used in the classroom.

The TEFL course in Rome is divided into six main areas

1) Teaching Practice

This is the most practical and fundamental area of any TEFL training course. During the teaching practice sessions, trainees have the opportunity to teach real students of English and put into practice the skills learnt during the theoretical parts of the course.

2) Foreign Language Experience

During the course, trainees receive instruction in an unknown foreign language to help them reflect on the experience of being a learner. This session is extremely useful in creating empathy between the teacher and student and should help trainees to direct their own teaching.

3) Language Awareness

a) This area focuses on grammar and covers subjects such as parts of speech, the structure of tenses, conditionals and modals and other common grammar points. During these sessions trainees learn about these subjects as well as ways to teach them to their future students in the classroom.

b) This area also looks at the subject of phonology and covers phonemics, word and sentence stress, intonation and connected speech.

4) Student Profile

For this part of the course, each trainee is required to work with an individual student in order to work on things such as rapport building, error analysis, correction techniques and addressing individual student needs. Three meetings with the student are required to complete the profile, after which the trainee completes a one-to-one lesson with their student. The final stage is the completion of a written report regarding the lesson.

5) Teaching Techniques

This component of the course covers areas such as:

  • Lesson planning
  • Classroom management
  • Establishing rapport
  • Discipline in the classroom
  • Managing equipment and teaching aids
  • Creating materials
  • Correction techniques
  • Evaluation and testing
  • Teaching vocabulary
  • Teaching grammar
  • Teaching receptive skills (reading and listening)
  • Teaching productive skills (speaking and writing)
  • Games in the classroom
  • Songs in the classroom
  • Teaching beginner students
  • Teaching individual students

6) Materials Project

All trainees are required to create their own set of materials to be used during the teaching practice. These materials will be useful in future teaching environments and will help to instill the benefits of creativity and resourcefulness in relation to your lesson planning. The materials should be easily portable, durable and adaptable for different lesson points.

Once you have created your materials project you will present it to a course trainer and demonstrate how it will be used in the classroom. Your trainer will then provide advice and suggestions on how they can be improved and how they could be used in another context.

Apply Today

All applications from candidates aged 18 (younger ages may be considered in exceptional circumstances) and above will be considered for our English teaching courses. Our in-class TEFL courses are intensive, four-week programs; however, all trainees should still have sufficient time to explore the local area, experience the culture and to meet new people. Also, individual course organizers will often arrange leisure activities for our trainees so they can socialize in their spare time and make the most of their experience.

The total price is divided into: deposit and balance.

The deposit may be paid via a) credit card b) PayPal c) wire transfer d) Western Union.

The balance of the course fee must be paid by cash, PayPal or bank transfer directly to the training center on the first day of the course.

    TEFL Rome | TEFL Italy

The ancient Romans called Rome “The Eternal City” as they believed it would go on forever and indeed this seems to be the case. Even if you have never visited Rome before you have probably seen the city in films and are familiar with some of its monuments and landmarks such as the Colosseum, the Roman Forum, the Pantheon, the Trevi Fountain, the Spanish Steps and of course the Vatican City. In fact, the entire centre of Rome is a UNESCO world heritage site.

Rome hosts many festivals as well. Exhibitions, concerts, Expo and other shows and events take place throughout the year and themes include everything from technology, fashion and modern art to theatre, music and dance from all over the world. The city is brimming with history, arts and culture. From the opera to pop culture, from pizzerias to nightclubs, Rome has it all.

Once was the heart of Western civilization, Rome is now the soul of the European Union. Above and beyond all the sightseeing you can do, you can also enjoy a leisurely stroll down the narrow cobbled streets of Trastevere or Monti, enjoy delicious pizza, pasta and ice-cream and wash it down with some top quality wine. You can escape city life in one of Rome’s large green parks, relax by the Tevere river or hop on a train and go to the coast in 30 minutes. Best of all, you can become more than a tourist and get to know the vibrant Italian lifestyle and friendly locals. You can experience Rome!

The Rome TEFL/TESOL certificate course is demanding, but if you are going to study somewhere, you may as well to do so in pleasant surroundings surrounded by culture and amazing views.

Another good reason to consider Rome for your TEFL/TESOL course is that Italy has a thriving English teacher job market; from the moment you arrive you can start building your future.

All roads lead to Rome, after all.

    The School

Our Rome TEFL training centre is located near one of Rome’s most typical and attractive neighborhoods, Trastevere. All around the building are plenty of shops, bars, supermarkets and restaurants, and the location is well-connected to all forms of public transport. The school itself is bright and friendly with well equipped classrooms. They have computers, internet connection and projectors in every classroom so you can be even more flexible and creative with your lesson planning. There is also plenty of space for you to stay and plan your lessons at the school where there will always be a teacher trainer on hand to help you if need be.

Partners and clients of our school are private individuals, state and commercial organizations. At the same time, half of our students are children and teenagers aged between five and fourteen years.

We benefit from a partnership with different accommodations located near the training centre. The accommodation choices can be:

    • Shared room (with another TEFL trainee or your friend),

All you need to do is provide us with your arrival and departure dates, how near or far from the school you would like to be, your budget and the type of accommodation you prefer and we can help you arrange it. Of course you are perfectly free to find your own accommodation for your stay in Rome. Therefore, if you have friends already here, you might prefer to be with them and that’s no problem at all. The accommodation services are extra and optional.

We can provide free transportation between the Fiumicino International Airport or Ciampino International Airport and your accommodation on Friday between 10:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m.

Our private airport shuttle to your accommodation is also available Monday-Sunday between 9:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. The fee is €50 from Fiumicino or €40 from Ciampino.

    Accommodation Fees

The accommodation fees are not part of the course price and you are free to choose whichever accommodation option you prefer.

You are not obliged to use the accommodation provided by the school and you are welcome to make your own accommodation arrangements. If you choose to use our accommodation, it should be paid for either by cash, PayPal or bank transfer directly to the school at the start of the course.

    FAQs

Q What are my payment options?

Course deposits must be paid to our administrative center. Credit/debit card payments are the fastest and cheapest way to pay, but we also accept payments via Western Union, Pay Pal and bank transfer. While there are no deadlines for a deposit, courses can fill up quickly and your seat will only be reserved after the deposit has been paid.

Once you make your deposit, you will receive an email with an informational packet that provides detailed information about the course and Rome itself.

The balance of course fees are payable on the first day of class and can be made with a credit/debit card or in cash. Alternatively, you can pay the balance via Pay Pal or bank transfer before the first day of class.

Course fees are all-inclusive so you won’t be asked to pay additional costs for course related materials or services. This also includes course moderation and accreditation fees, airport pick-ups* and lifetime job assistance.

    * If you are in our accommodation program, we offer a courtesy pick-up service from Fiumicino airport to your accommodation on the Friday before the beginning of the course from 11.00 a.m. to 5.00 p.m.

Q What are my accommodation options?

We offer apartment accommodation in the city centre and the surrounding area. The apartments are comfortable and simply furnished with equipped kitchens. Blankets and sheets are provided, but bath towels are not. Our apartment accommodation prices start from around 450 € for a single room and 400 € for a shared room.

The accommodation fee is paid to the landlord or landlady directly upon your arrival, in euro and in cash. The landlady or landlord may well ask for a deposit in advance (which will not be refundable if you cancel the booking) but this will be deducted from the final sum you pay upon arrival.

Q What travel documents will I need for Italy?

This information is specific to your country of origin and always subject to change. For the most accurate and current information regarding travel documents to Italy, please contact your nearest Italian consulate. There is also a very good chance that all the information you require (application documents, application fees, duration of processing documents) is available on the embassy’s webpage.

Q What is the course schedule?

Classes generally begin at 9:30 a.m. and run until 1:30 p.m. during which grammar and theory are discussed. Afternoons are spent planning lessons with our trainers. Trainees then teach their lessons during the afternoons and evenings, possibly until 8:30 p.m.

Q What can I expect during teaching practice?

Annually, our school has about 900 students of all ages and all levels, so our trainees will have the opportunity to experience all kinds of teaching situations. The students come from many backgrounds, countries (though typically Italy) and work places.

Lessons are based upon real teaching resources found all over the world and you will have the chance to create your own materials as well. You will receive the aid of your course trainer throughout lesson planning and receive immediate feedback on your lesson after it’s been delivered. Practicum is assessed and a satisfactory assessment is required to earn your TEFL/TESOL certificate.

Q Who usually attends the course?

On average we have about twenty five students enrolled on each program, most of whom are American or British, but we also have students from Australia, New Zealand and South Africa amongst others. Ages range from 20 to 60 years old, although the majority of our students are between 22 and 30 years old.

Q Is there a dress code?

During trainees’ lessons, casual attire is allowed. During teaching practice, you will need to dress in trousers/skirts and closed-toe shoes. Men need collared shirts, while women need to wear conservative tops that will cover their shoulders. No visible tattoos or facial piercings are allowed while teaching local students.

Q What should I bring for course studies?

Just like the first day of any other school, you will need some supplies. We will give you your course material and notebook, but you will need to have your own pens and pencils. You may also want scotch tape, a stapler, highlighters, colored pencils and markers, glue, scissors and white-out. You will also need to buy your own paper for the photocopier. All of these materials can be purchased from a store near the school if you do not wish to bring them from home.

Please note that we have wireless internet available at the school for hooking up a laptop but normally there are no phone lines in the accommodation. There are numerous internet facilities all over Rome and should you require a computer for coursework at the school, we have a computer with internet access available in your classroom.
