We offer a world-renowned TEFL / TESOL certification course in Florence that equips you for the professional task of teaching English overseas, or in your home country. Our TEFL certification courses last for four weeks and have a very practical emphasis. There is no need to speak any language other than English, as our courses concentrate on training you to teach English with the international standard communicative approach – where English is the only language used in the classroom.

Our TEFL certification courses

Our TEFL certification courses are certainly demanding; however, we do everything within our power to encourage TEFL students to pass the course and to promptly acquire a teaching job abroad.

The TEFL course in Florence is divided into six main areas

1) Teaching Practice

This is the most practical and fundamental area of any TEFL training course. During the teaching practice sessions, trainees have the opportunity to teach real students of English and put into practice the skills learnt during the theoretical parts of the course.

2) Foreign Language Experience

During the course, trainees receive instruction in an unknown foreign language to help them reflect on the experience of being a learner. This session is extremely useful in creating empathy between the teacher and student and should help trainees to direct their own teaching.

3) Language Awareness

a) This area focuses on grammar and covers subjects such as parts of speech, the structure of tenses, conditionals and modals and other common grammar points. During these sessions trainees learn about these subjects as well as ways to teach them to their future students in the classroom.

b) This area also looks at the subject of phonology and covers phonemics, word and sentence stress, intonation and connected speech.

4) Student Profile

For this part of the course, each trainee is required to work with an individual student in order to work on things such as rapport building, error analysis, correction techniques and addressing individual student needs. Three meetings with the student are required to complete the profile, after which the trainee completes a one-to-one lesson with their student. The final stage is the completion of a written report regarding the lesson.

5) Teaching Techniques

This component of the course covers areas such as:

  • Lesson planning
  • Classroom management
  • Establishing rapport
  • Discipline in the classroom
  • Managing equipment and teaching aids
  • Creating materials
  • Correction techniques
  • Evaluation and testing
  • Teaching vocabulary
  • Teaching grammar
  • Teaching receptive skills (reading and listening)
  • Teaching productive skills (speaking and writing)
  • Games in the classroom
  • Songs in the classroom
  • Teaching beginner students
  • Teaching individual students

6) Materials Project

All trainees are required to create their own set of materials to be used during the teaching practice. These materials will be useful in future teaching environments and will help to instill the benefits of creativity and resourcefulness in relation to your lesson planning. The materials should be easily portable, durable and adaptable for different lesson points.

Once you have created your materials project you will present it to a course trainer and demonstrate how it will be used in the classroom. Your trainer will then provide advice and suggestions on how they can be improved and how they could be used in another context.

Apply Today

All applications from candidates aged 18 (younger ages may be considered in exceptional circumstances) and above will be considered for our English teaching courses. Our in-class TEFL courses are intensive, four-week programs; however, all trainees should still have sufficient time to explore the local area, experience the culture and to meet new people. Also, individual course organizers will often arrange leisure activities for our trainees so they can socialize in their spare time and make the most of their experience.

    TEFL Florence | TEFL Italy

Taking a TEFL course in the fascinating city of Florence could be the start of a dream come true. With something to please everyone, Italy has proved to be a highly popular destination for TEFL courses and Florence is a particularly popular choice for many students.

As the capital city of the Tuscany region, Florence has everything you could hope for. Nestled in the northwest of the country, surrounded by vineyards and rolling hills, no visitor to the city could fail to be amazed by the beauty of Florence and the warm welcome of its people.

The birthplace of The Renaissance, Florence holds one of the greatest concentrations of artistic achievements to be found anywhere in the world, with original works of Leonardo da Vinci, Raphael and Botticelli all on display here. Another sight that you will not be able to miss is the breathtaking view of Brunelleschi’s terracotta dome which hovers majestically above the medieval rooftops of the city.

Our TEFL course in Florence is designed to allow you to enjoy every moment you spend in this marvellous city and the wider Tuscany region. While your main focus will be the expert training and the internationally recognised certificate you will receive, we will also do everything we can to ensure that you are able to make the most of your free time during the course.

    TEFL Course in Florence, Italy

Our teacher trainers in Florence are all highly qualified and experienced professionals who have many years of experience teaching in the classroom. Our facilities are modern, comfortable and our classes are always attended by real non-native speakers so you will be doing your teaching practice in a real teaching environment. Believe it or not, many courses have you teaching fellow trainees while simply playing the role of a student.

We are also pleased to offer a variety of accommodation options for your stay while you attend our TEFL course in Florence. However, it is important to note that Florence is a very popular tourist destination and as such, many of the accommodation options have limited availability, particularly during the summer months. Therefore, if you have any special accommodation requirements, we would recommend that you book as early as possible.

The course fees listed on our website are inclusive of course-related lessons, materials, teaching practice, assessments, certificates, references, lifetime job assistance and more. We have no hidden costs or extra charges so the prices you see on the site are the prices you will pay.

    The School

Florence, the great Renaissance city, has been chosen as our TEFL course location in the beautiful Italian province of Tuscany. The delightful city of Florence with its internationally famous medieval structures and fine Renaissance architecture is sure to make an impression on any visitor and leave you with a true appreciation of its history. It is likely that you will come face-to-face with famous works of art by such renowned artists as Brunelleschi and Michelangelo on a daily basis. You will also be surprised at just how easy it is to imagine living during the time of the Renaissance as the magical city of Florence transports you to another era.

    TEFL School in Florence

Our TEFL school in Florence is situated in a traditional Italian area where our TEFL course students can meet, eat, converse and socialise with Italians who live and work in the immediate vicinity of the school. Therefore, our students gain exposure to the real side of Florence and its people rather than the Florence that is usually experienced by tourists. Of course, the main tourist centre of the city is nearby so you will have plenty of opportunity to visit the many sights.

    Experience Tuscany

This is one of our main aims for our students taking a TEFL course in Florence; we want each of them to have the opportunity to interact with and to be exposed to the traditional, unique and authentic Tuscan lifestyle. As many of our students decide to teach English in smaller Italian cities this is ideal preparation not only for teaching English in Italy but also to be able to adapt and feel comfortable wherever they decide to teach.

Our TEFL course students come from a wide variety of countries and backgrounds (although most do come from native English speaking countries). Our teacher trainers are all highly qualified and experienced, while our Italian support staff are also extremely helpful and happy to provide you with any assistance that you need in order to ensure that your time in Florence is as varied and enjoyable as possible.

Complete our application form now and look forward to teaching and learning amidst the beauty and excitement of Florence and Tuscany.

    Accommodation

We are pleased to offer a variety of accommodation options for your stay while you attend our TEFL course in Florence. However, it is important to note that Florence is a very popular tourist destination and as such, many of the accommodation options have limited availability, particularly during the summer months. Therefore, if you have any special accommodation requirements, we would recommend that you book as early as possible.

    Private Accommodation in Florence, Italy

Our first option is a private room in an apartment in Florence. These rooms are located in various areas of the city for you to choose from, and you may or may not (according to your wishes and availability) be placed with other TEFL course students.

Several of our apartments are also rented by Italian students of the Universita degli Studi di Firenze who are happy to share their apartment (though you will, of course, have your own private room) with a visiting TEFL course student. As you will have your own room, you are guaranteed privacy but at the same time you will have the opportunity to get to know a genuine Florentine student and to practice your Italian skills with a native Italian speaker.

    Shared Accommodation in Florence, Italy

Our second option is a shared room in Florence (limited availability so book early to avoid disappointment). This tends to be a very popular choice, particularly if you are attending the TEFL course in Florence with a friend or partner. You will be provided with a single bed (or double if you are with your partner) in a shared room situated in the city.

All of our shared rooms are comfortably furnished and are well located throughout the city. This can also be a very good way to get to know one of our other TEFL course students in the area. ITTT students will usually be rooming together with this option, so you will always have someone to discuss your teaching and studying ideas with, or just for company while taking a coffee break or going out for a meal.

Home Stay Accommodation in Florence Italy

Our third accommodation option is a home stay. Many of the students who attend our TEFL courses wish to experience staying with an Italian host family. This is a very popular option for those students who really want to fully experience the Italian lifestyle.

During the day you will normally be occupied with studying and teaching. However, you will also have the opportunity to go to your accommodation and eat an authentic Italian dinner with your host family. This is particularly suitable if you have some basic knowledge of Italian and wish to practice and improve your language skills. Please note that with the home stay option overnight guests are not permitted.

    Pensione Accommodation in Florence, Italy

If you wish to have a more comfortable and independent stay and don’t wish to be bothered with daily chores such as making your bed or walking to a café or restaurant for breakfast or dinner, then you may choose to stay at the Pensione Ferretti, which is nicely situated right in the centre of historical Florence. Roberto and Sandra, a Florentine married couple, are more than happy to invite you to stay at their pensione. Pensione Ferretti conveniently offers free internet access and there are telephones in every room. Please note that overnight guests aren’t permitted without prior approval.

Please note that all accommodation options for our TEFL courses in Florence are located within a short walk or bus journey from the TEFL course training centre.

    Accommodation Fees

The accommodation fees are not part of the course price and you are free to choose whichever accommodation option you prefer.

You are not obliged to use the accommodation provided by the school and you are welcome to make your own accommodation arrangements. If you choose to use our accommodation, it should be paid for either by cash, PayPal or bank transfer directly to the school at the start of the course.
