We offer a world-renowned TEFL / TESOL certification course in Zhuhai, China, that equips you for the professional task of teaching English overseas, or in your home country. Our TEFL certification courses last for four weeks and have a very practical emphasis. There is no need to speak any language other than English, as our courses concentrate on training you to teach English with the international standard communicative approach – where English is the only language used in the classroom.

Our TEFL certification courses

Our TEFL certification courses are certainly demanding; however, we do everything within our power to encourage TEFL students to pass the course and to promptly acquire a teaching job abroad.

The TEFL course in Zhuhai, China, is divided into six main areas

1) Teaching Practice

This is the most practical and fundamental area of any TEFL training course. During the teaching practice sessions, trainees have the opportunity to teach real students of English and put into practice the skills learnt during the theoretical parts of the course.

2) Foreign Language Experience

During the course, trainees receive instruction in an unknown foreign language to help them reflect on the experience of being a learner. This session is extremely useful in creating empathy between the teacher and student and should help trainees to direct their own teaching.

3) Language Awareness

a) This area focuses on grammar and covers subjects such as parts of speech, the structure of tenses, conditionals and modals and other common grammar points. During these sessions trainees learn about these subjects as well as ways to teach them to their future students in the classroom.

b) This area also looks at the subject of phonology and covers phonemics, word and sentence stress, intonation and connected speech.

4) Student Profile

For this part of the course, each trainee is required to work with an individual student in order to work on things such as rapport building, error analysis, correction techniques and addressing individual student needs. Three meetings with the student are required to complete the profile, after which the trainee completes a one-to-one lesson with their student. The final stage is the completion of a written report regarding the lesson.

5) Teaching Techniques

This component of the course covers areas such as:

  • Lesson planning
  • Classroom management
  • Establishing rapport
  • Discipline in the classroom
  • Managing equipment and teaching aids
  • Creating materials
  • Correction techniques
  • Evaluation and testing
  • Teaching vocabulary
  • Teaching grammar
  • Teaching receptive skills (reading and listening)
  • Teaching productive skills (speaking and writing)
  • Games in the classroom
  • Songs in the classroom
  • Teaching beginner students
  • Teaching individual students

6) Materials Project

All trainees are required to create their own set of materials to be used during the teaching practice. These materials will be useful in future teaching environments and will help to instill the benefits of creativity and resourcefulness in relation to your lesson planning. The materials should be easily portable, durable and adaptable for different lesson points.

Once you have created your materials project you will present it to a course trainer and demonstrate how it will be used in the classroom. Your trainer will then provide advice and suggestions on how they can be improved and how they could be used in another context.

    TEFL Zhuhai | TEFL China

Taking a TEFL course with ITTT in Zhuhai is a great choice for anyone who wants to teach English as a foreign language in China. Studying in this wonderful city will give you an invaluable insight into the diverse culture and history of the country and give you all the tools you will need to become a successful English language teacher here, elsewhere in China or even further afield.

The city of Zhuhai is situated in an outstanding geographic location. It’s bordered by Macao to the south, Guangzhou to the north and is only 36 miles across the Pearl River Delta from Hong Kong. The city’s clean environment and attractive coastline are just two of the many reasons why our TEFL course trainees have given Zhuhai so much praise.

Zhuhai was awarded the ‘International Award for Best Practices Living Environment’ as deemed by the United Nations Centre for Human Settlement in 1999. It has also been awarded other titles such as ‘Top Tourist City of China’ and ‘City of 100 Islands’ due to the number of islands, large and small, which make up the greater city area. During your stay here you will have plenty of time to explore some of these beautiful areas such as Hebao Island which has no less than eight sandy beaches, the amazing 4000 meter long beach at Danan Bay, as well as the beautiful Feisha Beach which offers some great swimming and other beach activities. Q What travel documents will I need for china?

Please note that you must have your passport with you for registration with us and our host school on the Sunday of your arrival.

If you do not already have a Chinese visa you can apply for a Tourist (L) visa in order to attend the course. You can obtain a Tourist (L) visa from your local consulate or a travel agent. In order to obtain a visa you will need the following documents prepared:

    1) Visa application form.
    2) One recently taken 2X2 inch photo showing your entire face (no hats). Please affix the photo to the application form.
    3) Original passport with at least 2 blank visa pages and valid for at least 6 months beyond the date of application.

Q What is the course schedule?

Normally all the classes are scheduled from 8:50 a.m. to 4:45 p.m. during weekdays, however, we do observe the many Chinese national holidays, which means we sometimes have to work over the weekend to make up for these days off. Trainees will be scheduled for observed teaching practice on or off site depending on students’ circumstances. Chinese students are usually very well behaved in the classroom and are interested and excited about learning English with a foreigner. Class sizes range from 10 to 25. Trainees will teach lessons of 30 to 50 minutes according to the student’s timetable.

Q What can I expect during teaching practice?

We offer English classes for Chinese students who are interested in improving their English language abilities. Lessons are based upon real teaching resources found all over the world and you will have the chance to create your own materials as well. You will receive the aid of your course trainer throughout lesson planning and receive immediate feedback on your lesson after it’s been delivered. Practicum is assessed and a satisfactory assessment is required to earn your TEFL/TESOL certificate.

Q Who usually attends the course?

We average groups of six to ten trainees. Most of the participants are American, British, Canadian or Australian, although we do accept non-native speakers of English who have a high proficiency in the language.

Q Is there a dress code?

For all input and tutorial sessions at the training location, there is only one specific dress requirement: Both men and women should have a shirt covering their shoulders. The course operates from within a school so we ask you to be mindful of this, as well as being mindful of your peers and to respect the fact that you are a visitor in another country.

During teaching practice there are specific requirements that adhere to the local dress code. All trainees are expected to dress professionally according to the following guidelines:

Women: Shoulders should be covered, blouses with sleeves are suggested. No low-cut necklines, very short skirts or bare midriffs. Open-toed shoes are acceptable, but not hiking or flip-flop sandals.

Men: Long pants, slacks or trousers are required, jeans are not acceptable. Short or long-sleeved shirts with a collar are necessary, although a tie is not required. Loafers or dress shoes are both fine, sandals are not acceptable. Long hair should always be tied back.

Q What should I bring for course studies?

Please be sure to arrive on the first day of the course with a notebook and a pen. We also encourage you to bring a laptop but this is not essential.
